Accreditation for Pharmacists
The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This activity provides 2 hours (0.2 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education credit (ACPE activity #204-000-09-430-H01P).
Methods and Format
This is an online activity consisting of audio and slides for three presentations, a post-test, and an activity evaluation tool. Participants should claim continuing education credit for this internet-based educational activity only if they have not claimed credit for the live activity. Participants must view all presentations, take the activity post-test, and complete the course evaluation to receive continuing pharmacy education credit. A minimum score of 70% is required on the test for credit to be awarded, and participants may print their official statements of continuing pharmacy education credit immediately. The estimated time to complete this activity is 2 hours. This activity is provided free of charge.
Target Audience
This continuing pharmacy education activity was planned to meet the needs of pharmacists in a variety of practice settings, including large and small health systems, outpatient clinics, managed-care organizations, long-term care facilities, and academia. This activity would be particularly beneficial for pharmacists, clinical specialists, managers, leaders, and educators who are interested in new drug therapies, women's health, preventive medicine, ambulatory care, and oncology.

Learning Objectives
After participating in this knowledge-based CPE activity, participants should be able to- Identify methods and issues related to promoting bone health and screening for osteoporosis based on clinical guidelines, patient risk factors, and proper use of the World Health Organization's fracture risk algorithm (FRAX).
- Identify patients who are candidates for osteoporosis treatment based on recent guidelines from the National Osteoporosis Foundation.
- Describe current and emerging therapeutic options for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
- Describe the rationale for monitoring the bone health of patients with breast or prostate cancer undergoing hormone ablation therapy.
- Describe current and emerging therapeutic options to decrease bone loss in patients with breast or prostate cancer undergoing hormone ablation therapy.
- Identify at least three ways that pharmacists can help improve the quality of bone health initiatives in their institutions.
- Discuss elements of successful patient education related to bone health.
