The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This activity provides 1.0 hour (0.1 CEU) of continuing pharmacy education credit (ACPE activity #204-000-12-417-L04P).
This is a live web-based activity consisting of audio, presentation slides, and an activity evaluation tool. Participants must participate in the entire presentation and complete the course evaluation to receive continuing pharmacy education credit. This continuing pharmacy education activity was planned to meet the needs of pharmacists in a variety of practice settings, including large and small health systems, outpatient clinics, managed-care organizations, long-term care facilities, and academia. This activity would be particularly beneficial for pharmacists, clinical specialists, managers, leaders, and educators who are interested in quality improvement.
In today's healthcare environment, pharmacy leaders and staff are challenged to implement cost-saving plans while maintaining a high-level of patient care. To be successful, pharmacists are using Lean process improvement tools to create change that will demonstrate sustainable positive patient outcomes. A3 is a tool that helps to identify and eliminate waste. Known for producing useful results, the power of A3 comes from the development of the culture that supports application of the A3 problem solving process. In this interactive webinar, the A3 tool will be discussed and A3 pharmacy applications will be shared in a case-based approach.

Mark Heelon, Pharm.D.Mark Heelon, Pharm.D., is Medication Safety Specialist at Baystate Medical Center, Inc. in Springfield, Massachusetts. In collaboration with other healthcare providers, Dr. Heelon is responsible for facilitating medication safety improvement projects by assisting in the design, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of safe medication processes within Baystate Health System. As Medication Safety Specialist, he is the leader and champion for all medication safety initiatives and efforts develops and implements interdisciplinary error-prevention strategies that focus on Lean system processes.
Dr. Heelon has published and presented in the area of medication safety. He received the 2010 LEAP Lean Excellence Award in Pharmacy and the 2010 President’s Quality Award from Baystate Health.
Dr. Heelon received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Idaho State University School of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy.
Gary Kerr, Pharm.D., M.B.A.Gary Kerr, Pharm.D., M.B.A., is Chief Pharmacy Officer - Baystate Health, Baystate Medical Center, Inc. in Springfield, Massachusetts where he has oversight responsibilities for operations and clinical pharmacy services to inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory care areas at the Baystate Health facilities. He also has indirect oversight of academic partnerships, including the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) - accredited residency program. Previously, Dr. Kerr has held leadership positions in managed care and community settings.
Dr. Kerr is President of the Massachusetts Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He has served as chair of Premier’s National Pharmacy Committee. Currently, Dr. Kerr is a member of the Formulary Editorial Advisory Board, Massachusetts Coalition for the Prevention of Medical Errors, and the Board of Trustees at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
Dr. Kerr received his Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Science in pharmacy degrees from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Master of Business Administration from Western New England College.
What is a live webinar?
A live webinar brings the presentation to you - at your desk, in your home, through a staff in-service program. You listen to the speaker presentation in “real time” as you watch the slides on the screen. You will have the opportunity to ask the speaker questions at the end of the program. Please join the conference at least 5 minutes before the scheduled start time for important program announcements.
How do I process my Continuing Education (CE) credit?
After completion of the live webinar, you will process your CE online and print your statement of credit at the ASHP CE Center found at http://ce.ashp.org. To process your CE, you will need the Activity and Session Codes that will be announced at the end of the webinar.

What if I would like to arrange for my colleagues to participate in this webinar as a group?
One person serving as the group coordinator should register for the webinar. That group coordinator will receive an e-mail confirmation with instructions for joining the webinar. A few minutes before the webinar begins, the group coordinator should launch the webinar link. Once the webinar has been activated, the coordinator will have the option to open the audio via VoIP (Voice Over IP) on the webinar toolbar or use a touch tone phone with the provided dial-in information. At the conclusion of the activity, the group coordinator will complete a brief online evaluation and report the number of participants at that site. Each participant will process his or her individual continuing education statement online at the ASHP CE Center.
